Box 6 — Medicare tax withheld

Employee Medicare tax withheld—1.45% of Box 5, plus any Additional Medicare Tax your employer withheld.

What it means

Employers must begin withholding Additional Medicare Tax once wages they pay you exceed $200,000 in a calendar year, regardless of filing status. If you are married filing jointly and combined wages are under $250,000, you may get some of that back when you file.
