State abbreviation and employer’s state tax ID for state wage reporting.
What it means
Box 15 identifies which state wage and withholding amounts in Boxes 16–17 belong to. If you worked in multiple states, you may receive more than one W-2 or multiple state rows. Use this with your state return and any nonresident credit claims—not as federal AGI.
